City of Quincy issued the following announcement on Nov. 9.
Eight things the City of Quincy does to help save the environment:
1. We use recycling bins in every department to divert trash from the landfill.
2. We reuse Bio Sludge leftover from sewage breakdown, that is used as a "soil conditioner" and fertilizers for fields.
3. We have partnered with Ameren to change the bulbs around the city to LED lighting. This includes lights in our facilities and street lights.
4. We promote going paperless by encouraging our employees to make use of electronic files rather than printed copies whenever possible.
5. We recycle toner and ink cartridges.
6. We’ve implemented Virtualization, which cuts down on power consumption, including heating and cooling services.
7. We encourage citizens to go paperless by making electronic payments for utilities.
8. We have made energy efficiency improvements at the water plant to help decrease energy usage.
The City helps to save the environment and we know we each have a responsibility to do the same. What are ways you help to protect the environment in your life?
