City of Quincy issued the following announcement on Nov. 3.

Sandra Shore’s love for airports started while waiting on a table, which led to an internship and shooting for her dreams. Shore is originally from Lake of the Ozarks, MO. Like many people in the industry, she started off wanting to fly and be a pilot; however, as she continued her education she found out there was a lot more to airports than just flying. While Shore was finishing her undergraduate degree at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, she waited tables to help get her through college. One night she waited on a member of the Southern Illinois Airport Board, they started to have a conversation of what her interests were, and he said that they commonly have internships. She started two days later and stayed there for three years until she eventually got her own airport to manage. Shore also interned in Washington D.C. with the American Association of Airport Executives.

As the Airport Director at Quincy Regional Airport she oversees many different things. A main part of Shore’s job is making sure the airport is Federal Aviation Administration part 139 certified, which is making sure the airport is safe and held to the highest of standards. Shore also makes sure the airport follows all Transportation Security Administration regulations and oversees all day to day operations. One of the big things she hopes to accomplish in her first 90 days is to pass the FAA Certification Inspection, close out things that are outstanding and conduct community outreach. Before making any changes at the airport, she wants to observe and see how the community and the airport react together. She is passionate about being able to provide the public with an asset like the airport, which is very fulfilling, and being able to work for the public.

The airport not only serves airport passengers, but also houses Quincy University Aviation Department and local businesses that fly in and out of Quincy.

“I am going to need the city, a lot more than they are ever going to need me,” said Shore.

The airport provides a 14-million dollar economical impact annually. In addition to her work as Airport Direct, Shore hopes to become involved in other Civic Organizations as a way to get to know the community even better.
