CITY OF QUINCY: Have you heard? The Quincy Police Department now have 57 body cameras for all uniformed police officers, street crime units and department’s housing officer

Police 04

City of Quincy issued the following announcement on Oct. 11.

Have you heard? The Quincy Police Department now have 57 body cameras for all uniformed police officers, street crime units and department’s housing officer. Quincy Fire Department will use one of the cameras, which will be worn by the incident commander to overview the scene of a fire and for training purposes.

The cameras are pretty cool, and here is why:

The cameras are always uploading the video, thanks to the router in each car.

The cameras can be activated manually, by the Bluetooth watch each officer has, which can turn the volume up or down and start and stop recording.

When the officer turns the sirens on or when the officer starts running recording is started.

If the officer is down for more than 15 seconds the camera will send out an alert and location of the officer to dispatch and all other officers on duty.

The camera is always secured in the officer’s shirt or vests away from the weather, and has GPS abilities.

What you should know: When you are interacting with someone who is a member of QPD you should assume you are being recorded.
