Mary Miller, the U.S. Representative for Illinois' 15th Congressional District, expressed support for the Trump administration's tariffs, stating they are "bringing huge investments into the United States." This comment was made in a Facebook post on March 24.

"Amazing," said Miller, according to Facebook. "President Trump's tarrifs are working and bringing HUGE investments into the United States. That's the Art of the Deal in action!"

According to a Reuters article linked in Miller’s post, Hyundai Motor Group has announced a deal with President Donald Trump for a $21 billion investment in the United States. This includes a $5.8 billion steel plant in Louisiana expected to create 1,400 jobs and produce 2.7 million metric tons of steel annually to supply auto plants in Georgia and Alabama. Reuters reports that Hyundai plans a $9 billion investment by 2028 to increase its U.S. production capacity to 1.2 million vehicles and a $6 billion investment in strategic partnerships with U.S. companies. The automaker had previously announced in 2022 an intention to invest about $10 billion in the U.S. by 2025.

Automotive News reported that Hyundai will also purchase $3 billion in U.S. liquefied natural gas as part of efforts to boost the U.S. supply chain and economy. Hyundai is opening an electric vehicle plant in Georgia, initially announced in 2022, but it is being reworked to focus on hybrid vehicles due to a slowdown in demand for electric vehicles. Additionally, Hyundai is investing in two battery joint ventures with SK On Co. and LG Energy Solution Ltd., aiming to increase the capacity of the Georgia plant.

Miller currently serves in Congress representing Illinois' 15th district after succeeding former U.S. Rep. John Shimkus in 2021. She holds a BA from Eastern Illinois University and was born in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1959; she now resides in Oakland with her family.
