A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Quincy City Council in Illinois on October 15, 2024. The request was made by us at Quincy Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability, we requested specific information about all current council members. The requested data includes each member's name, title, year of appointment, term length (whether it is two or four years), and the date their term expires.
We believe that access to such public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have requested a fee waiver for this information under the provisions of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
We are awaiting a response from the Quincy City Council and will continue to work towards ensuring that our community is well-informed about its local government representatives.
