Illinois has commenced its fall trout catch-and-release season, which began on Saturday, October 5, 2024. This period offers anglers in the state a two-week window to engage in catch-and-release fishing for trout. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources annually stocks more than 80,000 rainbow trout in designated bodies of water where trout fishing is allowed during the fall.

The full fall trout season will open statewide on October 19. During this time, anglers can keep their catches.

"Illinois fall trout season opens Oct. 19 statewide, catch-and-release season begins Oct. 5," reported Muddy River Sports.
