According to the Illinois Secretary of State (SOS) website, individuals who do not have a U.S. passport, do not visit military bases, or do not use airplanes as a mode of domestic transportation do not need a REAL ID. Those who don’t have a passport or passport card, who fly, visit military bases or visit secure federal facilities must get a REAL ID. All driver services facilities are issuing REAL ID cards.

Starting May 7, 2025, the Transportation Safety Administration will require Real ID or a valid passport in order to fly. The new deadline for the Real ID program was announced on May 1. The program itself was created in 2005 but has been delayed over the years due to backlogs at department of motor vehicle facilities, according to MyStateline.com. The Real ID Act was passed in response to the September 11 attacks.

Sen. Jil Tracy has represented the 50th District since November 22 but her political experience includes time as a State Representative from 2006 to 2014, according to her official biography. During her time as a member of the state House of Representatives, she was on the Rod Blagojevich impeachment committee. During her legal career, she worked in private law and as Mt. Sterling’s City Attorney. Later, she was an Assistant Illinois Attorney General working as Director of the West Central Regional Office.
