Liberty Community Unit School District #2 Board of Education met Sept. 20.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Regular meeting was called to order at 6:31 p.m. Members present: Derhake, Mixer, Obert and Sims. Absent: Baucom, Meyer and Mowen. 4 present 3 absent. Also present: Kelle Bunch, Michael Smith, Kristy Klingele, Stephanie Hodgson, Patricia Huddleston, Kathryn Lease and Chris Taylor.

Meyer arrived at 6:32 p.m.

Baucom and Mowen arrived at 6:34 p.m.

Motion by Obert, seconded by Meyer that the board of education opens FY24 proposed budget public hearing. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Derhake, Meyer, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims. 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.

Motion by Mowen, seconded by Baucom that the board of education closes FY24 proposed budget public hearing. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Derhake, Meyer, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims. 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.

Motion by Mowen, seconded by Meyer that the board of education approves the Routine Consent Agenda, except the Prairie Farms Dairy bill. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Derhake, Meyer, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims. 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.

Motion by Meyer, seconded by Baucom that the board of education approves the Consent Agenda. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Derhake, Meyer, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims. 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C..

Motion by Meyer, seconded by Mixer that the board of education consider piloting a Liberty High School Dance Team for 2023-2024. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Derhake, Meyer, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims. 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.

Motion by Mixer, seconded but Mowen that the board of education approve applying for a matching School Maintenance Grant FY24 for repaving a section of the elementary parking lot using $50,000 from the grant and $50,000 from Tort Funds. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Derhake, Meyer, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims. 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.

Motion by Mowen seconded by Baucom that the board goes into closed session. Time: 8:56 p.m. Meeting in Closed Session on the following subjects: a) the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees, specific individuals who serve as independent contractors, or specific volunteers of the School District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee, a specific individual who serves, as an independent contractor, or a volunteer of the District.; b) collective negotiating matters between the School District and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees; c) the purchase or lease of real property for the use of the District; d) the setting of a price for sale or lease of property owned by the District; e) the sale or purchase of securities, investments, or investment contracts; f) emergency security procedures; g) student disciplinary cases; h) the placement of individual students in special education programs and other matters relating to individual students; i) pending, probable, or imminent litigation; j) evaluation of attorney; k) approval of certain closed session minutes for distribution to the public; or other matters appropriate for a closed meeting pursuant to the Open Meetings Act. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Derhake, Meyer, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims. 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.

Motion by Meyer, seconded by Baucom that the board of education go out of closed session. 10:07 p.m. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Derhake, Meyer, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims. 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.

Motion by Baucom, seconded by Mowen that the board of education approve the personnel report. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Derhake, Meyer, Mowen, Obert and Sims. Abstain: Mixer 6 ayes 0 nays 1 abstain. M.C.

Motion by Obert seconded by Mowen that the board of education adjourns. Time: 10:09 p.m. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Baucom, Derhake, Meyer, Mixer, Mowen, Obert and Sims. 7 ayes 0 nays. M.C.
