Hawks Split Double Header Against Miners
The Quincy University Baseball team started off GLVC play on Friday (March 17th) as they hosted the University of Missouri S&T Miners. The Hawks would split the double header losing the first game 20-10 and walking off the second game with a 5-4 win.
Game One
The Miners exploded in the top of the first inning with 7 hits and 9 runs. But Quincy would answer back with two runs in the bottom half of the first inning when Gino D'Alessio and Luke Napleton hit back to back home runs cutting the deficit to 9-2.
The Hawks would score one more run in the bottom of the second on a Nolan Wosman walk. The Miners would score three more runs in the top half of the fourth but QU would respond with three runs of their own on a three-run home run by Cole Erickson making it a 12-6 game.
After Missouri S&T put up a seven spot in the top of the fifth inning, Lance Logsdon would hit a two RBI double followed by an RBI single from Nolan Wosman would make the game 19-9. A Brock Boynton home run in the bottom of the sixth would make it a 20-10 game, but the Hawks ended up losing the first game 20-10.

Game Two
Missouri S&T would manufacture a run in the top of the first but QU wasted no time answering back. Lance Logsdon would tie the Quincy career doubles record, held by Josh Rabe at 48, with a double that advanced Dustin Dupont to third in the bottom of the first. Dupont would later score on a wild pitch tying the game up at 1-1.
After a quiet second inning for both teams, the Miners would score two runs in the top of the third. The Hawks would once again respond right away and tie the game up in the bottom half on a Lance Logsdon sacrifice fly and a two out RBI single by Austin Simpson.
In the bottom half of the fourth inning Joe Huffman would hit his third home run of the year giving the Hawks their first lead of the day 4-3.
The Miners would tie the game back up in the top half of the seventh inning, but Nolan Wosman had other plans as he would play hero in this one hitting a walk off base hit through the left side to bring in Seth West giving the Hawks a 5-4 win.
Griffin Kirn would go 5 strong innings, striking out 8 only allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. Chase Gockel would pitch the final two innings out of the bullpen for the Hawks only allowing 2 hits, striking out one.
QU will be back in action for another double header against Missouri S&T on Sunday (March 19th) at QU Stadium. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm.
