Hawks Show Some Fight, But Cannot Finish

Hawks Show Some Fight, But Cannot Finish

Looking to bounce back from their loss against Illinois – Springfield, the Hawks stepped out of conference play on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 hosting the Grand Valley State Lakers. The Lakers came away with the 63-59 win.

The Hawks started the game slow and could not take care of the ball. They committed four turnovers before the first media timeout and trailed 7-3. GVSU extended their lead to 6 by the under 12 minute media timeout. QU got to within a point, but the Lakers used a 7-2 run. The Laker lead would grow to double digits with just over five minutes left in the half. QU used an 8-2 run to get back within striking distance in the final minute of the half. GVSU got a late bucket to take the 28-24 lead into the locker room.

QU came out of the locker room and would grab the lead just five minutes into the half at 38-34. GVSU would tie the game at 43, then take the lead on back-to-back free throws by Trevor Smith. The GVSU lead extended to as large as 9 with under four minutes left in the game. The Hawks went on a 7-0 run to get within a possession, but they would fail to score in the last seventy seconds of the game.

QU hits the road on Saturday, December 10th for a GLVC contest in Springfield, Missouri against the Drury Panthers.
