PREVIEW: Hawks to Host the William Jewell Cardinals on Senior Day

The 2022 campaign wraps up in week 11 for the Quincy University Hawks as they are set to host the William Jewell Cardinals in the Battle of the Birds, which the Hawks won by the score of 51-17.

The Hawks will honor their 18 seniors prior to kickoff.

Key Information

Record Book Watch

Quarterback Tionne Harris is pressing towards numerous spots in QU football history. For single season touchdowns, he currently sits at 25, which is one shy of the top spot. Harris could break his own record, which he accomplished in the 2021 season if he throws for two or more touchdowns. The St. Louis, Missouri native has thrown for 2,900 yards and only needs 252 yards to break Andrew Rund's mark of 3,151 yards from the 2019 season. Lastly, should he complete 47 passes, he will break the single season completion mark that currently sits at 258 held by Rund in the 2019 season.

For Harris's career, he has thrown 55 touchdowns, Nick Lonergan (2012-15) holds the current record of 62.

Senior Left Tackle BJ Wilson started his 45th career game for the Hawks last week at SBU. That is the most career starts in program history.

On the defensive side of the ball, Linebacker Peyten Chappel is on the verge of making QU history. He currently sits at 374 total tackles, which is 2 shy of the current record held by Cody Leonard (2015-18). Chappel has made 221 solo tackles, and again is 2 shy of Leonard's record of 223.

Series History

Dating back to 2012, the Hawks lead the series with the William Jewell Cardinals 6-3. The last game in Quincy between the two schools was back in 2019, which saw the Hawks win a tight one 47-42.

Scouting the Hawks

The Hawks enter the final week of the season with a 4-6 record (1-4 GLVC) and are losers of their last three. They fell to the Southwest Baptist Bearcats by the score of 42-24. SBU scored 28 points in the 2nd quarter to break the contest open and that proved to be the difference.

QU's defense has given up an average of 51 points in the last three games, while only scoring 31 points. Overall QU is 5th in the GLVC in total defense, but their offense ranks 3rd.

Scouting the Cardinals

The Cardinals come in with an overall record of 1-9 (0-5 GLVC) and on a 6 game losing streak. Their lone win of the season came back on September 24th at home against the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. Since then, their defense has given up an average of 47 points per game on the losing streak. In that same stretch, their offense has averaged just 19 points.

They are coming off of last week's loss to the 15th ranked University of Indianapolis by the score of 48-14. The 6 point lead at the half, turned into 28 unanswered points by the Greyhounds in the 2nd half.

The Cardinals have the worst scoring offense and defense in the GLVC. They are also last in total yards gained at 270 per game, along with giving up over 500 yards per game.
