Illinois farms that welcome the public to take part in agricultural activities like hayrides or pumpkin picking as part of their businesses could be eligible for a financial break under a law passed by lawmakers earlier this year.
In a Facebook post, Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) shared her week in review that touched on a variety of topics including availability of a tax credit for agritourism businesses.
"Agritourism businesses across the state can now apply for up to $1,000 in relief from liability insurance costs for 2022 and 2023," Tracy wrote in the post.
Tracy's Week in Review newsletter also said the goal of the tax credit was to reduce the costs associated with hosting visitors on working farms for things like pick your own apples, and corn and sunflower mazes, among other fun farm events and educational opportunities. Businesses are encouraged to apply for the tax credit since the application is now open and available now on the Illinois Department of Agriculture website.
The Senate approved the tax credit back in April as part of Senate Bill 157.
In her week in review, Tracy made sure to point out how proud she was to support the bill when it passed and was signed into law as a public act.
