Sara Murphy, RN, Vascular Access Team, became the 76th Blessing Hospital nurse to receive the international DAISY Award during a ceremony on September 30, 2022.
Sara was nominated by the wife of a patient for whom she helped place a midline catheter. The nomination stated, in part: “She gave me her number and told me to not hesitate to call or text any time we had any questions. I didn't think I would use it, but I did. She was so sweet and understood how I was feeling. She never hesitated to have another team member come meet us while she was at another appointment, or talk to the home health aide over the phone, or have us meet her so she could take a look at his midline and make sure everything was ok.
Sara always took the time to reassure us that we were doing ok and never once made us feel like we were inconveniencing her with our incessant questions. Thank you, Sara, for all your help during our crazy four weeks. You are very appreciated.”
DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year-old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 4,800 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.
DAISY award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital and on the internet at blessinghealth.org/recognize.
