Illinois state Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) has officially endorsed U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis in the Tuesday primary to represent the new 15th Congressional District.

Tracy noted that she lent her endorsement to Davis—who currently represents the 13th District—over Mary Miller (R-Oakland) because she had worked with him previously, a recent St. Louis Public Radio report said.

"Rodney is known for constituent service and that is what I think is really important, whether it be our U.S. representatives or our state representatives, that they do constituent service," Tracy said in a recent interview with the Herald-Whig. "And we will have someone we can go to about federal issues and I know Rodney Davis is that person."

"I'm so proud of the support our campaign has received from so many Republican leaders across every part of the 15th District," Davis said in a recent Facebook post. "I've got a solid record of advancing conservative policies and getting things done in Washington, but there's still more work to do. I'd be honored to have your vote in this election."

During a visit to Quincy earlier this month, Davis recalled an incident in 2017 when a gunman opened fire on congressmembers during a baseball game.

"My view point on the Second Amendment was solidified that morning," Davis told WGEM. "I’m licensed to carry a weapon here in the state of Illinois, but I couldn’t legally carry that weapon from Washington D.C to the state of Virginia that morning. The first thought that went through my mind after I knew a shooter was coming at us was, I wish I had my weapon and fired back."

Tracy noted that she doesn't consider Miller a "poor candidate," the St. Louis Public Radio report said. The senator commented that Davis and Miller both champion the conservative views she and her constituents have on the issues of abortion, fiscal conservative values, limited government and 2nd Amendment rights.
