The Quincy Notre Dame Lady Raiders brought home the IHSA Girls Basketball State Championship this month, and Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) wanted to celebrate with them.
"State Senator Jil Tracy met with the Quincy Notre Dame girls basketball team March 21 to celebrate their victory in the Illinois High School Association's Class 2A State Championship game on March 5! The QND Lady Raiders beat Winnebago High School, 63-56. Congratulations to the Lady Raiders, Coach Eric Orne and his staff," a post on Tracy's Facebook page said.
At school, Quincy Notre Dame celebrated the team with an assembly for the team in The Pit on March 7. Before the assembly, they met for photos and had a firetruck escort past the four Quincy Catholic elementary schools before returning to QND.
This is the sixth state championship for the Lady Raiders basketball team, and the fourth for Coach Eric Orne. "Everyone worked for this," Blair Eftink, a junior guard, told Muddy River Sports. "Even the ones who don't get a lot of the attention, they worked so hard for this in practice. It's a full team win."
