The Quincy University men's and women's track and field teams competed over the weekend (Jan 29) at Principia.
In the women's 200 meter finals three Hawks placed in the top seven led by De'Andre Cornwall who finished with a time of 27.27 seconds which was 4th place. Taryn Sargent finished 6th posting 27.54 seconds while Christian Haggard finished 7th with 27.67, and had the fastest time in her section. Karmen Reynolds also placed 22nd and finished in 29.68 seconds.
Sargent also placed 12th in the 300 meter finals completing in 46.92 seconds. In the women's 500 meter finals Athena Lesiotis finished in 1:30.83 while Adajilsa Matos placed 12th with a time of 1:33.56.
In the women's 60 hurdles finals Christian Haggard finished fourth in 9.85 seconds while De'Andre Cornwall placed 5th in 9.94 seconds. Haggard also placed ninth in the high jump.
The Hawks also finished first in the women's 4 x 200 relay finals by a wide margin. Christian Haggard, De'Andre Cornwall, Adajilsa Matos, and Taryn Sargent finished the relay in 1:51.64 to earn the fastest time, while they came in second in the 4x400 finals over the weekend.
The men's team had Chadwick Stewart finish in 5th place in the 60 meter finals with a time of 6.98 seconds. Stewart also placed second in the 200 meter final. Herman Chongwain (23.39 seconds) placed ninth in the 200 meter finals and David Gamble finished in 13th place after he completed the distance in 23.77 seconds. Mateusz Dziekan also finished in 30th place in the 200 meter final. Kevin Saunders ran the 300 meter in 37.25 seconds which was good for a ninth place finish.
The Hawks also showed out in the men's 500 meter finals when Timothy Legemet took second place (1:09.23), Nile Mclymont earned 7th (1:13.13), and Thiea Shea (1:15.21) placed 8th in the race. The Hawks won the men's 4 x 200 relay finals behind the efforts of Stewart, Chongwain, Carlo Heath, and Saunders. Cole Schnettgoecke finished 3rd in the shot put finals with a 13.42m mark.
