QU Gray Gallery to Host John and Rudy Gebhardt Art Exhibition

24

Quincy University issued the following announcement on Jan. 7

Quincy University’s Gray Gallery, located in Brenner Library, will host the art exhibition Color Digital Photography with Thematic Carve Frames, featuring works by John Gebhardt, from Quincy, Ill., and Rudy Gebhardt from Argyle, Wis. This free exhibition will take place from January 24 – February 18, 2022, and is open to the public.

Artists John and Rudy Gebhardt have collaborated to create unique pieces of artwork. John, a photographer, provides his brother Rudy with photos he has taken on his travels.

“As a photographer, I enjoy taking photos, especially of nature and inanimate objects.  As can be seen in my photographs, I try to capture what I see in nature,” said John.

After seeing some of his brother’s photography, Rudy decided to create wooden themes on frames to surround John’s photography. Each unique frame is based on the theme of the photo.

“Together, we have created some unique “artistic” items,” said John. “We hope viewers of our combined artwork will enjoy them.”

Also included in the exhibit are some of John’s framed photography which is not part of the collaborative effort.

Rudy is a retired registered nurse, a coroner, paramedic, EMT and volunteer fireman. In his spare time, Rudy carves unique items including, carvings on furniture and other items for friends, relatives and as donations for Raffles.

John is retired from John Wood Community College, where he accomplished promotional photography for JWCC, and he was the director of technology and telecommunications.  He has also taught classes in educational media for Quincy University and Wayne State University in Wayne, Nebraska.  He has been a photographer for over 50 years.

In addition to their collaborative work, John has also provided photos he has accomplished on his travels.  He especially likes taking close-ups of flowers, animals and things he finds in nature.
