Adams County Board Public Health & Safety Committee met Nov. 9.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Committee members present were Steven DeMoss, Travis Cooley, David McCleary and Megan Howell (?). Also present was Scott Graham, John Simon and Rich Wagner. Absent was Barbara Fletcher and Megan Howell (?).

All bills were reviewed and appeared to be in order.

A motion to approve the minutes of the prior meeting was made by Steven DeMoss, seconded by David McCleary. Motion passed.

Sheriff’s Report: Sheriff Wagner.

Jail:

They are currently offering open applications for corrections officers. They are currently short 4 jailers. If the upcoming budget passes, they could hire as many as 8 more.

They are requesting that the Legal and Judicial Committee and the full County Board amend the County Code Merit Commission language on residency requirements for Corrections Officers only. They would like to expand the residency requirement to a forty (40) mile radius from the jail, to include counties outside of Adams as well as residents of Missouri to attract a larger pool of applicants.

The current jail population (11/9/2021) is 119.

The jail has 8 inmates ready for transport to IDOC. Last week they delivered 25 to the DOC.

Sheriff’s Office:

The Sheriff’s Office sponsored a Trunk or Treat on October 27th in front of the Courthouse. Numerous Courthouse offices participated making the event a huge success.

The Sheriff’s Office has started a fundraiser called Beard for a Benefit. The Officers will donate money for the waiver of the office shave policy so that they can grow a beard. The money collected will be donated to a local family(s) that has suffered a hardship this year.

Coroner’s Report: Coroner Graham

For the month of September 2021 there were:

107 reported deaths

4 autopsies

1 abandoned cremation

50 cremation permits issued

For the month of October 2021 there were:

100 reported deaths

2 autopsies

1 abandoned cremation

52 cremation permits issued

Coroner Graham reports that he is running a rate of 50% cremations lately. Emergency Management/Ambulance: Director Simon

Ambulance:

Director John Simon reported that staffing is yet again an issue. They are losing 2 to the military in December and there are no new personnel currently in the pipeline.

18 are currently attending an EMT class that began on November 1. Graduation will be in March.

Emergency Management:

Director Simon is working on all the reimbursement requests for FEMA.

There have been 145 new COVID cases in the last 7 days, which is a bit of an uptick, but Director Simon does not see this as alarming.

Testing has concluded and tents are down.

The Health Department is still doing flu vaccines and COVID booster shots.
