Quincy University Hawks Football issued the following announcement on Nov. 13
The Quincy football team ended the year with a convincing 51-17 win over William Jewell on Saturday (Nov. 13) afternoon.
The Hawks surrendered a field goal in the opening drive but then scored 21 unanswered points as a response. Quarterback Tionne Harris threw touchdowns to AJ Hardin and Angel Ruiz, then Tremayne Lee rushed for a 22-yard score to give QU a 21-3 lead with 10:09 to go in the second quarter.
QU surrendered another touchdown in the quarter but the offense marched down the field and ended their drive with a Michael Klotz field goal. Senior Chris Poindexter made an impact play when he scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery on the ensuing kickoff to put the Hawks ahead 31-10 with 6:17 left in the second.
Harris added two rushing scorers with his legs, and Klotz added two more field goals in the second half. QU's defense pitched a clean shutout to seal the win in the second half.
It was the most points the Hawks scored in GLVC play this season, and they set a new school record for most points scored in a single season in the season finale.
Quincy had three interceptions and hopped on a few fumbles to end the year leading the nation in turnovers.
With the win, QU took home the inaugural Battle of the Birds trophy and topped William Jewell for a third straight time as Gary Bass finished his 5th year at the helm on a high note.
