Hawks Lose Second Half Lead; Shocked By Bearcats 51-48

Quincy University Hawks Football issued the following announcement on Oct. 16

The Quincy University football team held a 31-7 lead with 14:04 to play in the third quarter but were stunned late by McKendree on Saturday (Oct. 16) evening. Quincy was outscored 16-0 in the final five minutes as they fell at home, 51-48.  

The Hawks led 24-7 at halftime, and expanded their lead to 31-7 after an A.J. Hardin 75 yard touchdown reception on the Hawks opening drive of the second half.

McKendree clapped back and made the score 31-21 after two consecutive touchdowns.

Michael Klotz later made a 29-yard field goal, and Jalen Griffin rushed in a score from two yards out to give QU a 41-21 lead with 13:31 to go in the fourth quarter.

McKendree turned it on again and scored with 11:37 and 8:09 left in the fourth to tighten things up, 41-35.

Tionne Harris punched in a rushing score for his fifth total touchdown of the game with 5:32 minutes left in the fourth quarter to give the Hawks a 48-35 lead.

McKendree proceeded to score touchdowns at the four minute mark and the 1:47 mark. An extra point was missed by the Bearcats which led to a tie game, 48-48.

Quincy got the ball back, but turned it over on an interception on the very first play. The visitors took advantage and grabbed their first lead of the game on a 39-yard field goal with 25 seconds left.

QU had one last attempt to send the game to overtime after driving the ball to the McKendree 31-yard line in 20 seconds. Michael Klotz came on for the potential game-tying 48-yard field goal with four seconds on the clock, but it was blocked by McKendree to end the game.

Next Up

The Hawks will square off with Indianapolis next Saturday at home for a 1:00 PM kickoff.
