Quincy University issued the following announcement on Oct. 18
Junior setter Makayla Knoblauch was named the GLVC Player of the Week by the league office on Monday (Oct. 18).
Knoblauch led Quincy to three victories over the weekend, including two sweeps to finish the weekend after a 3-1 win over Northwood at the Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover Tournament.
The Leo, Indiana product totaled 106 assists and averaged 10.6 assists per set to guide the Hawks to a 3-0 weekend as the only GLVC team to go unbeaten at the tournament. Knoblauch also added five kills, three service aces, and hit .222 which landed her on the All-Tournament team.
The Junior setter had two double-doubles with 21 digs and 38 assists against Northwood as well as 13 digs and 28 assists against Saginaw Valley.
Knoblauch notched 41 digs on the weekend, which accounted for 4.10 digs per set.
This was her second career Offensive Player of the Week award after earning the recognition in early March of 2021 during the Hawks' spring campaign.
The Hawks are 11-10, and 5-5 in GLVC play while riding a four-game win streak. The Hawks have eight GLVC games remaining and five of them will be at Pepsi Arena where QU has posted a 3-1 record thus far.
Quincy plays on the road this weekend against Southwest Baptist (Friday, Oct. 22) and Rockhurst (Saturday, Oct. 23) before finishing the year with five of the final six matches at home.
Knoblauch is a two time First-Team All-GLVC setter for the Hawks, and transferred from Indiana State prior to the 2019 season. She joined the Hawks program at the same time as Head Coach Mark Jones, who has turned the program around in a short amount of time.
The Indiana State transfer is currently second in the GLVC and 26th in the NCAA with 10.45 assists per set. Lauren Stenman (Lewis) is barely ahead of Knoblauch with 10.62 assists per set to pace the conference.
A Look Ahead
Quincy's 5-5 record in GLVC play is 3rd in the Central Division behind UMSL (15-5, 8-1 GLVC) and Lindenwood (12-6, 5-2 GLVC). Overall, there are seven teams in the league that have a GLVC win percentage above .500. Quincy, and Southwest Baptist (5-5) are both tied for the 8th best GLVC win percentage.
Quincy's remaining future opponents have a .497 win percentage which is tied for fourth fewest in the GLVC for its eight remaining league games.
QU is currently ranked 3rd in the GLVC in the following categories: assists per set (11.97), hitting percentage (.216) and kills per set (13.33).
Quincy's attack features two other returning first team All-GLVC performers in Emily Rehagen and Mattison Norris. Rehagen is currently 3rd in the GLVC with 3.47 kills per set to lead the Hawks, and that is 28th best in the NCAA. First year Hawk, Emma Wijnbergen, is second on the team with 2.70 kills per set which is 12th best in the GLVC.
The top eight teams earn a berth to the GLVC postseason tournament that will be held at the EastSide Centre (East Peoria, IL) for the 8th consecutive year.
