John Wood Community College Board of Trustees Executive Committee Met June 7.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

The Executive Committee met at 8:00 a.m. in room C252. Attendees were Ms. Diane Ary, in-person, Mr. Bob Rhea, in-person, and Mr. Larry Fischer in person, trustees, Mr. Michael Elbe, president and Ms. Leah Benz, executive assistant, note taker.

President Elbe discussed items from the June 16, 2021 Board meeting agenda.

April Board Agenda Items

Consent items:

  • Regular Board minutes
  • Financials, bills
  • Curriculum items – New course Introduction to Literature ENG 111
Grant items:

  • Submission to ICCB for Equity-Driven Continuous Improvement Funds - $84,928
  • Submission to WIOA ARE #14 for Youth-Out of School Workforce Program - $30,000
  • Submission to Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for Small Business Community Navigation Grant - $15,345
  • Acceptance of EDA grant – WDC expansion $3,033,418
Business items:

  • FY22 tentative budget resolution approval
  • School Treasurer’s Bond adoption
  • 3-year elevator service and preventative maintenance bid authorization
  • Ramp documents approval
  • Intergovernmental agreement amendment between U of I and JWCC approval
Discussion was held on the newly created Instructional Coordinator position within the budget, the extension proposal of the intergovernmental agreement, the six RAMP documents being presented, a proposed timeline for the EDA grant, and the groundbreaking date of the new Orr Center facility,

Discussion items:

Renormalization plan – The Executive Committee was informed of the College’s  updated renormalization plan. With the state of Illinois moving to Phase 5 the College updated the College’s renormalization plan to coincide with state guidelines.  

Board retreat feedback - President Elbe asked for feedback from the recent Board retreat.  A recommendation was brought forwarded for consideration to seek an outside person to validate or challenge what the College is doing and/or could be doing for discussion at the fall Board retreat.

Other

Negotiations – The Executive Committee was updated on the progress regarding the Collective Bargaining agreement. This information will be discussed with the entire Board in closed session.

Board training-  Legal counsel will be doing Board training. Final dates are still being arranged.

JWCC Newsletter - A JWCC newsletter will be sent to households by the end of June. A copy of this newsletter will be included in the table folder.
