Payson Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education Met Oct. 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER Lisa Schwartz, president, called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m.

ROLL CALL Nancy Cromie, district secretary, called roll with the following members present: Lisa Schwartz, Vinson Sill, Shannon Triplett and Clint Twaddle. Krista Bangert, Chanse Barker and Jeff Hull were absent.

Also present were Donna Veile, Dawn VanCamp, Julie Phelan, Barb Speckhart and Nancy Cromie.

VISITORS Jeff McPherson

AUDIT Jeff McPherson from Gray, Hunter and Stenn presented the FY20 audit report to the board. The district received recognition with a 4.0.

TECHNOLOGY REPORT Barb Speckhart gave an update on the speed radar sign and time clocks.

ATHLETIC REPORT Brian Rea submitted a report on the conclusion of the JH baseball, JH softball and golf seasons. IHSA contact days and winter/spring sport timetables were given.

CONSENT AGENDA Triplett made a motion to approve the consent agenda. Sill seconded the motion.          AYE: Sill, Triplett, Twaddle and Schwartz          NAY: None

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT Donna Veile shared information on the district report card, health/life safety inspections, and IASB virtual meetings. There was an update on building projects and a gym handrail. CDARS will be renewed for six months. She also reminded the members that the November meeting is on Tuesday, November 17th.

SALARY AND BENEFITS REPORT Triplett made a motion to approve the salary and benefits report. Twaddle seconded the motion.          AYE: Sill, Triplett, Twaddle and Schwartz          NAY: None

IASB POLICIES Sill made a motion to approve the second reading of IASB policies as listed on the agenda. Schwartz seconded the motion.          AYE: Sill, Triplett, Twaddle, and Schwartz          NAY: None

INTER-FUND LOAN REPAYMENT Triplett made a motion to approve the repayment of an inter-fund loan for $100,000.00 from Health Life Safety to Working Cash. Schwartz seconded the motion.          AYE: Sill, Triplett, Twaddle and Schwartz          NAY: None

PRINCIPAL’S REPORTS Julie Phelan, elementary principal, talked about remote learners and plans to set up for parent/teacher conferences. She also provided an update on the ELA and Math Leadership teams. PTO is having a one-day food drive.

Dawn VanCamp, secondary principal, demonstrated a website that some teachers are using, called CNN10. She also shared about FAFSA night and the FFA meal. Parent/teacher conferences will be virtual or by phone this year. The SAT test was administered successfully to the seniors, who were not able to be tested last spring.

MOVE TO CLOSED SESSION Triplett made a motion to move into closed session for the purpose of discussing the employment of personnel, student matters, and other items appropriate for closed session. Sill seconded the motion.          AYE: Triplett, Twaddle, Sill and Schwartz          NAY: None

Entered into closed session at 8:25 p.m.

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION Triplett made a motion to return to open session. Schwartz seconded the motion.          AYE: Sill, Triplett, Twaddle, and Schwartz          NAY: None

Returned to open session at 8:39 p.m.

EARLY GRADUATION REQUESTS Sill made a motion to approve two early graduation requests, pending completion of credit requirements. Twaddle seconded the motion. AYE: Sill, Triplett, Twaddle and Schwartz          NAY: None

ADJOURNMENT Triplett made a motion to adjourn. Twaddle seconded the motion. AYE: Sill, Triplett, Twaddle and Schwartz         NAY: None
