Kosin sees Pritzker progressive tax threats as just more 'intimidation tactics'

Quincy conservative activist Mecki Kosin argues the more voters learned about Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s progressive tax plan, the less he had a chance of getting what he’s fought for since the day he arrived in Springfield.

“As time went on, I think more and more people realized it was all a lie and there was no way it could do what they were saying it would,” Kosin told the Quincy Reporter. “The thought that the governor would be willing to pass a tax that would hit him and his cronies hardest of all really doesn't fit when you think about all the trouble he went through to keep from paying taxes on his own properties.”

In the wake of the tax hike plan, which he sold as only meaning higher rates for the state’s most affluent residents, going down at the polls, Pritzker is now warning of “painful” cuts to counterbalance things as he sees fit. Kosin sees it as just more of the same intimidation tactics she thinks have become far too big a part of the governor’s way of doing business.

“He’s trying to get back at people, but if he’s truly going to cut things he needs to focus on what’s not necessary, like all the help we give to illegal aliens," Kosin added. "You have to come into this country legally; you can’t expect to get more assistance than our veterans are getting here at home.”

Kosin argues the governor already has little wiggle room given all the ground he’s already clearly lost with voters.

“I think he knows it,” she said. “That’s why he’s even coming out telling (House) Speaker (Mike) Madigan to go, and pointing fingers at all the controversy swirling around him.”

After roughly four decades of being in power and being in the middle of countless controversies, Kosin argues the time for Madigan to go as House speaker is long past due.

“Hopefully, more people will soon be calling for the same thing,” she said. “That would tell me that maybe there is hope we can finally get everything in order.”
