Chicago (75,152 cases) and Cook County (59,649 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,916, while Cook County recorded 2,217 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 4,735,866, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 52,395 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 122,494 were male and 133,813 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,477, while female deaths stood at 3,832.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,872 Asians, 3,872 whites, 2,180 African-Americans, 1,679 Hispanics, and 202 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
