Quincy Public School District 172 Board of Education met Aug. 10.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

Meeting Convened

The Board of Education of School District No. 172, Adams County, Illinois, met in special session at 8:00 a.m. in the Board of Education Office, Room 214, located at 1416 Maine Street, Quincy, Illinois, in said school district.

Roll Call

The meeting was called to order by President Ali, who directed the secretary to call the roll. On the call of the roll, the following members were present and answered to their names: Members Ali, Arns, Bailey, McNay, Nichols, Troup, and Whitfield; and the following member was absent: None. Whereupon the President declared a quorum was present. Member McNay was present telephonically.

Pledge of Allegiance

Superintendent Webb led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Questions and Comments

President Ali opened the meeting to questions and comments to members of the Board, by members of the public and employees of the district, in compliance with state statutes. There were none.

Resolution Return to School Plan

It was moved by Member Troup and seconded by Member Nichols to approve the Resolution regarding and Return to School Plan (Doc. Reg. No. 3153). On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Bailey, McNay, Nichols, Troup, and Whitfield; and the following member voted Nay: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

MOU #10 Covid Transition to Starting School Year/MOU #11 Dependent Childcare

It was moved by Member Troup and seconded by Member Bailey to approve the following Memorandums of Understanding with Quincy Federation: MOU #10 Covid Transition to Starting School Year (Doc. Reg. No. 3154) and MOU #11 Staff Dependent Care (Doc. Reg. No 3155). On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Bailey, McNay, Nichols, Troup, and Whitfield; and the following member voted Nay: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

Approve K-5 Student Handbook

It was moved by Member Troup and seconded by Member Nichols to approve the K-5 Student Handbook. On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Bailey, McNay, Nichols, Troup, and Whitfield; and the following member voted Nay: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

Amended Agreement with West Central Regional System Education for Employment

It was moved by Member Troup and seconded by Member Ali to approve the Amended Agreement with West Central Regional System Education for Employment (Doc. Reg. No.3156). On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Bailey, McNay, Nichols, Troup, and Whitfield; and the following member voted Nay: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

Workers’ Compensation Settlement

It was moved by Member Troup and seconded by Member Ali to approve the Workers’ Compensation Settlement in the amount of $125,325.05. On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Bailey, McNay, Nichols, Troup, and Whitfield; and the following member voted Nay: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried.

Discussion about School Year

Board members discussed the remote and in-person options for parents. Approximately 18% of students are signed up for remote learning so far. There were questions about different scenarios if a student or staff member tests positive for the virus during the in-person learning. Member Nichols said that once inside school, things are in place. The whole thing depends on before the child gets there and what responsibility parents and family take for the child.

It was moved by Member Bailey and seconded by Member Arns that the special meeting adjourn. On the call of the roll, the following members voted Aye: Members Ali, Arns, Bailey, McNay, Nichols, Troup, and Whitfield; and the following member voted Nay: None. Whereupon the President declared the motion carried and the special meeting was duly adjourned.
