Adams County Board Public Health & Safety Committee met May 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Overseeing the Sheriff, Emergency Management, Coroner and Animal Control.

Committee members present: Seldon Totch, Mark Peter, Steve DeMoss and Becky Weed Ryan Niekamp was present. Bob Reich and John Simon present on ZOOM.

All bills were reviewed and appeared to be in order.

Our committee approved minutes of March 17, 2020 meeting.

Department / Representatives:

Sheriff Dept By Email from Brian Vonderhaar

 Dept has submitted for federal grant related to COVID-19 to assist in response to pandemic.Seeking runds for video conferencing, computer upgrades, cleaning supplies and software/security updates.

 Moving to new offices. Once office staff, squad rom, court security and investigators are moved, they will begin moving the jail./

 Corrections officers have been training on the new systems in the jail outside normal working hours. Anticipate an increase in overtime usage this year.

 Since police and corrections academies are not reimursed by the state this year. Anticipate over expediture in training and uniforms.

 Department submitted a 5% cut in budget by suggesting we do not fill a secretary position that was previously budgeted.

 IDOC is not taking in new prisoners. We have approx 12 of their inmates right now. We (the Sheriff’s Association) are negotiating with DOC to determin what our reimbursement will look like.

Emergency Management – John Simon

 2019 Flood – Co-Opped with Morgan County to purchase sandbags. They picked up their ½ to fight the flooding on the IL river.

 We are taking in some funds for reimbursements that will need to be paid forward for expenses City of Quincy ran through us.

Coroner — John Myers & Scott Graham

 We have a 3rd and final draft of the indegent burial policy.

For the Month of April 2020

 There were 74 reported deaths.

 There were a total of seven autopsies.

 There were three new unclaimed/indigent cremations.

 There were 40 cremation permits issued.

Ryan played the virtual tour that was to be released for public viewing.

Our meeting adjourned at 7:20 pm.
