Payson Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Sept. 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER Lisa Schwartz, president, called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.

ROLL CALL Krista Bangert, secretary, called roll with the following members present: Krista Bangert, Jeff Hull, Lisa Schwartz and Vinson Sill. Chanse Barker, Brian Ippensen and Shannon Triplett were absent.

Also present were Donna Veile, Dawn VanCamp, Julie Phelan, Barb Speckhart and Nancy Cromie.

VISITORS Ashlea Goerlich

NEW STAFF Ashlea Goerlich introduced herself to the board.

Barker arrived at 7:03.

ATHLETIC REPORT Brian Rea submitted a report on current sport stats.

TECHNOLOGY REPORT Barb Speckhart talked about installation of cameras at the grade school, chromebooks, and student management/finance software programs.

CONSENT AGENDA Sill made a motion to approve the consent agenda. Schwartz seconded the motion. AYE: Bangert, Barker, Hull, Sill and Schwartz NAY: None

2019-20 BUDGET Schwartz made a motion to open the 2019-20 budget hearing. Bangert seconded the motion. AYE: Barker, Hull, Sill, Bangert and Schwartz NAY: None

There was no public comment.

Sill made a motion to close the 2019-20 budget hearing. Schwartz seconded the motion. AYE: Hull, Sill, Bangert, Barker and Schwartz NAY: None

Barker made a motion to approve the 2019-20 budget. Hull seconded the motion. AYE: Sill, Bangert, Barker, Hull and Schwartz NAY: None

SUPERINTENDENT Donna Veile shared legislative updates. There was discussion on the purchase of a used activity bus, upcoming report card data and the maintenance of the HS gym floor.

Ippensen entered at 7:41 p.m.

CERTIFIED SUBSTITUTE PAY Ippensen made a motion to increase certified sub pay to $95.00 per day. Sill seconded the motion. AYE: Sill, Bangert, Barker, Hull, Ippensen and Schwartz NAY: None

IASB POLICIES Ippensen made a motion to approve the second reading of IASB policies as listed on the agenda. Sill seconded the motion. AYE: Bangert, Barker, Hull, Ippensen, Sill and Schwartz NAY: None

EXTRA-CURRICULAR OFFICIALS PAY Ippensen made a motion to approve the extra-curricular officials pay. Schwartz seconded the motion. AYE: Bangert, Barker, Hull, Ippensen, Sill and Schwartz NAY: None

HAZARDOUS BUS ROUTES Ippensen made a motion to approve the hazardous bus routes. Sill seconded the motion. AYE: Ippensen, Sill, Bangert, Barker, Hull and Schwartz NAY: None

ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL REPORT Julie Phelan reported that MAP testing was complete and intervention groups have started. She gave an update on curriculum and PBIS.

SECONDARY PRINCIPAL REPORT Dawn VanCamp shared info on the active shooter drill. She also shared various student activities. There was a brief discussion on vaping.

MOVE TO CLOSED SESSION Ippensen made a motion to move into closed session for the purpose of discussing the employment of personnel, student matters, and other items appropriate for closed session. Barker seconded the motion. AYE: Ippensen, Sill, Bangert, Barker, Hull and Schwartz NAY: None

Entered into closed session at 8:50 p.m.

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION Ippensen made a motion to return to open session. Schwartz seconded the motion. AYE: Bangert, Barker, Hull, Ippensen, Sill and Schwartz NAY: None

Returned to open session at 9:34 p.m.

PERSONNEL ADDENDUM Ippensen made a motion to approve the personnel addendum. Schwartz seconded the motion. AYE: Sill, Bangert, Barker, Hull, Ippensen and Schwartz NAY: None

ADJOURNMENT Bangert made a motion to adjourn. Barker seconded the motion. AYE: Bangert, Barker, Hull, Ippensen, Sill and Schwartz NAY: None
