Blessing Health System issued the following announcement on Dec. 10.
Angie Buss RN, Progressive Care Unit, Blessing Hospital, became the 45th Blessing nurse to receive the international DAISY Award during a ceremony on November 25.
Through the DAISY award program, patients or their family members, visitors, doctors, hospital staff members or volunteers may recognize the extraordinary care provided by nurses.
Angie was nominated by a patient who also happened to be a nursing student.
“Angie was thrilled to find out I was a nursing student and even went as far as to offer ideas on how to get through nursing school while being non-weight bearing for three months. I was tearful in thinking that I was going to have to drop out of nursing school due to my surgery, but Angie made me feel that I could do anything and told me that I would do well,” the nomination read.
DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year- old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 1,900 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.
