QUINCY UNIVERSITY: QU to Host Annual Homecoming Weekend

Quincy University issued the following announcement on Sept. 16.

Some hot air balloons lit up on Friars FieldQuincy University will host its annual Homecoming Weekend September 26 – 29, with numerous events planned for alumni, students and the community. Festivities kick-off on Thursday, September 26, with the homecoming parade at 6:30 p.m. The parade route will begin at 18th & Lind and will travel south on 18th to Oak, east on Oak to 20th and north on 20th to Friars’ Field. A pep rally will follow featuring the QU Marching Band and fall teams north of Friars’ Field. The balloon glow will take place on Friars’ Field beginning at dusk. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from various vendors as well as activities for children starting at 6:00 p.m.

On Friday, September 27, Homecoming registration will begin at 11 a.m. in the Student Union (18th and Lind). During the day on Friday, the Chuck French Memorial Golf Tournament and the Baseball Alumni and Friends Golf Tournament will be held at Westview Golf Course. Registration and lunch will be at 11:15 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. Friday night activities include women’s and men’s soccer games v.s. Bellarmine University, and a Homecoming barbecue at QU’s North Campus (17th and Seminary Rd). New this year, QU will host a Homecoming Bar Crawl starting at 7:30 p.m. Participating bars include The Abbey, Barneys, Cedar Club, Jed’s, Spring Street and QU Hawks’ Nest.

Saturday’s activities include a 10 a.m. open house with QU President, Brian McGee, in Francis Hall Lobby with campus tours to follow. The tailgate lot will open at 9 a.m. and food and beverages will be available for purchase at QU Stadium. Quincy University’s Homecoming Football game will start at 1 p.m. against Truman State University.

On Saturday night, the annual Alumni Dinner recognizing the reunion classes of 1959, 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014 will be held at 6 p.m. in the Hall of Fame Room. The Alumni of the Year, Jim ’59 and Judy ’61 (Perko) Heinze, will be honored. The night will conclude with Rock of Ages concert at 8:00 p.m. in the three-court area in the Health and Fitness Center.

Events will wrap up on Sunday with the Stations of the Cross dedication ceremony, memorial mass in the chapel, brunch in the cafeteria and women’s and men’s soccer games v.s. University of Indianapolis.
