BLESSING HEALTH SYSTEM: Cardiac nurse receives DAISY Award

Award

Blessing Health System issued the following announcement on Aug. 20.

Robbie Overstreet, RN, Cardiovascular Unit, Blessing Hospital, became the 42nd Blessing nurse to receive the international DAISY Award during a ceremony on August 19.

Through the DAISY award program, patients or their family members, visitors, doctors, hospital staff members or volunteers may recognize the extraordinary care provided by nurses.

Overstreet was nominated by a former patient who experienced complications after an open lung biopsy. The nomination read, in part:

“Robbie made sure I was comfortable until it became obvious to him that I was in trouble. He calmly left the room. This was around 3 am or so. Robbie called my surgeon and let him know what he had noticed and had kept a very close eye on. The surgeon was there at the hospital within probably 30 minutes. Robbie and my surgeon explained to me very calmly that I needed to go back to surgery due to a bleed somewhere in my lung. Robbie made sure I was ready to go as soon as possible.”

“I feel as if it wasn't for him, the blood clot and the bleed would have cost me my life. Robbie was comforting, caring and calm throughout the whole situation. I was never afraid while he was with me as my nurse,” the nomination concluded.

DAISY stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System.” The family of a 33-year- old man, who died of an immune system disorder, began the program in 1999 to honor his memory by recognizing extraordinary nurses everywhere who make a difference in the lives of people by the work they do every day. More than 1,900 healthcare providers worldwide participate in the DAISY Award program.

DAISY award nomination forms are located on all nursing units throughout Blessing Hospital, other locations on the 11th Street campus and online here.
