Payson Community Unit School District 1 Board met April 16. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER Shannon Triplett, president, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.


ROLL CALL Brian Ippensen, secretary, called roll with the following members present: Krista Bangert, Chanse Barker, Leroy Brinkman, Jeff Hull, Brian Ippensen, Lisa Schwartz (by telephone) and Shannon Triplett.

Also present were Donna Veile, Julie Phelan, Barb Speckhart, Brian Rea and Nancy Cromie.

VISITORS None

ATHLETIC REPORT Brian Rea gave a report on the current status of spring sports. He also spoke on HS girls’ basketball.

TECHNOLOGY REPORT Barb Speckhart talked about erate.

CONSENT AGENDA Ippensen made a motion to approve the consent agenda. Triplett seconded the motion. AYE: Bangert, Barker, Brinkman, Hull, Ippensen, Schwartz and Triplett NAY: None

SUPERINTENDENT Donna Veile talked about the proposed senior memorial, staffing for next year, health insurance meeting and CEO Entrepreneur. She also gave an update on PLCs.

IASB POLICIES Ippensen made a motion to approve the first reading of IASB policies as listed on the agenda. Brinkman seconded the motion. AYE: Barker, Brinkman, Hull, Ippensen, Schwartz, Bangert and Triplett NAY: None

FINAL 2018-19 CALENDAR Triplett made a motion to approve the final 2018-19 calendar. Bangert seconded the motion. AYE: Brinkman, Hull, Ippensen, Schwartz, Bangert, Barker and Triplett NAY: None

HY-VEE CONTRACT RENEWAL 2019-20 Brinkman made a motion to approve the Hy-Vee contract renewal for 2019-20. Triplett seconded the motion. AYE: Ippensen, Schwartz, Bangert, Barker, Brinkman, Hull and Triplett NAY: None

ELEMENTARY FOOD BIDS Triplett made a motion to seek bids for milk and hot lunch products for the elementary. Barker seconded the motion. AYE: Schwartz, Bangert, Barker, Brinkman, Hull, Ippensen and Triplett NAY: None

CLASS OF 2019 SENIOR MEMORIAL Ippensen made a motion to approve the Class of 2019 senior memorial, a donation to the Payson Seymour Education Foundation. Brinkman seconded the motion. AYE: Bangert, Barker, Brinkman, Hull, Ippensen, Schwartz and Triplett NAY: None

ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL REPORT Julie Phelan talked about IAR testing, PreK and Kindergarten screenings, upcoming events/fieldtrips and curriculum updates. She also shared a video from 3rd grade.

SECONDARY PRINCIPAL REPORT Dawn VanCamp submitted a report on state testing, prom, National Honor Society, off campus lunch and a guest speaker.

MOVE TO CLOSED SESSION Ippensen made a motion to move into closed session for the purpose of discussing the employment of personnel, student matters and other items appropriate for closed session. Hull seconded the motion. AYE: Barker, Brinkman, Hull, Ippensen, Schwartz, Bangert and Triplett NAY: None

Entered into closed session at 7:35 p.m.

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION Brinkman made a motion to return to open session. Bangert seconded the motion. AYE: Ippensen, Schwartz, Bangert, Barker, Brinkman, Hull and Triplett NAY: None

Returned to open session at 8:23 p.m.

PERSONNEL ADDENDUM Ippensen made a motion to approve the personnel addendum. Triplett seconded the motion. AYE: Schwartz, Bangert, Barker, Brinkman, Hull, Ippensen and Triplett NAY: None

ADDITIONAL ITEMS There was a brief discussion on extra-curricular transportation.

ADJOURNMENT Brinkman made a motion to adjourn. Ippensen seconded the motion. AYE: Bangert, Barker, Brinkman, Hull, Ippensen, Schwartz and Triplett NAY: None
