Analysis: Payson administrators rank 805th in state for average pay

Administrators in Payson Community Unit School District 1 earn an average of $72,142 per year, ranking 805th out of 864 districts in the state, according to a Quincy Reporter analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The 2018 average is 2.8% lower than in 2014 and 14.2% lower than in 2009. District administrators make 32.8% less than the state average of $107,279.

Administrator salaries depend on the district's size, location and resources, as well as the individual's level of experience and education, according to the Illinois State Board of Education report.

The Adams County school district enrolled 559 students in 2017-18. There is an average of 140 students for every administrator, compared to a statewide ratio of 181 to 1.
