BLESSING HOSPITAL: Blessing social worker attends OCD conference

Blessing Hospital issued the following announcement on Aug. 16.

Alan Obert, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Outpatient Clinical Therapist, Blessing Physician Services, attended a four-day intensive training program on the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The program, entitled, “Exposure and Ritual Prevention,” was presented by the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health disorder that occurs when a person gets caught in a cycle of obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are unwanted, intrusive thoughts, images or urges that trigger intensely distressing feelings. Compulsions are behaviors in which an individual engages to attempt to rid themselves of the obsessions and/or decrease their distress.

Obert holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers.
