Payson Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Sept. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER

Lisa Schwartz, president, called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.

ROLL CALL

Nancy Cromie, district secretary, called roll with the following members present: Denise Albsmeyer (by phone), Chanse Barker, Danelle Donley, Lisa Schwartz, and Vinson Sill. Clint Twaddle was absent.

Also present were Donna Veile, Dawn VanCamp, Julie Phelan, Barb Speckhart, Don Miller and Nancy Cromie.

VISITORS

David Penn, Diane Germann, Trista Neisen, Tahnee Bauer, Kristie Bradshaw, Danielle Wilson, Terri Crim and Brandi Cole

PUBLIC

A new staff member introduced herself to the board. Two parents shared their concern about local control and curriculum.

TECHNOLOGY REPORT

Barb Speckhart talked about the application for eRate emergency connectivity funds.

AD REPORT

Don Miller reported on the status of current sports.

CONSENT AGENDA

Sill made a motion to approve the consent agenda.

Barker seconded the motion.

NAY: None

2021-22 BUDGET Barker made a motion to open the 2021-22 budget hearing.

Sill seconded the motion.

AYE: Barker, Donley, Sill, Albsmeyer and Schwartz

NAY: None

There was no public comment.

Schwartz made a motion to close the 2021-22 budget hearing. Barker seconded the motion.

AYE: Donley, Sill, Albsmeyer, Barker and Schwartz

NAY: None

Donley made a motion to approve the 2021-22 budget. Sill seconded the motion.

AYE: Barker, Donley, Sill, Albsmeyer and Schwartz

NAY: None

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT

Donna Veile share information on the ESSER III grant and the teacher evaluation bill. The USDA will continue to offer free meals for all students for the 2021-22 school year.

VICE PRESIDENT

A nomination was made and Schwartz made a motion to approve Chanse Barker as vice president. Sill seconded the motion.

AYE: Donley, Sill, Albsmeyer, Barker and Schwartz

NAY: None

HAZARDOUS BUS ROUTES

Barker made a motion to approve the list of hazardous bus routes on the agenda. Donley seconded the motion.

AYE: Sill, Albsmeyer, Barker, Donley and Schwartz

NAY: None

ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL REPORT

Julie Phelan reported on the status of MAP testing and intervention programs. October 4th is Be Like Grace Day and the PBIS team is leading the school projects.

SECONDARY PRINCIPAL REPORT

Dawn VanCamp talked about MAP testing. FFA is able to return to competitions this year and the band participated in the Liberty Fall Festival parade.

MOVE TO CLOSED SESSION

Barker made a motion to move into closed session for the purpose of discussing the employment of personnel, collective negotiation matters/salary compensation for employees, student matters, pending, probable or imminent litigation and other items appropriate for closed session. Sill seconded the motion.

AYE: Sill, Albsmeyer, Barker, Donley and Schwartz

NAY: None

Entered into closed session at 7:38 p.m.

RETURN TO OPEN SESSION

Schwartz made a motion to return to open session. Donley seconded the motion.

AYE: Barker, Donley, Sill, Albsmeyer and Schwartz

NAY: None

Returned to open session at 10:36 p.m.

PERSONNEL ADDENDUM

Sill made a motion to approve the personnel addendum. Barker seconded the motion.

AYE: Barker, Donley, Sill, Albsmeyer and Schwartz

NAY: None

MOU Barker made a motion to approve the MOU. Donley seconded the motion.

AYE: Sill, Albsmeyer, Barker, Donley and Schwartz

NAY: None

ADJOURNMENT

Albsmeyer made a motion to adjourn. Schwartz seconded the motion.
