JWCC Trustees Approve Flat Tax Rate and Truth in Taxation Act Resolution

0Comments

The John Wood Community College Board of Trustees voted to keep the College’s 2022 tax rate flat the same as 2021, during its regular meeting Wednesday, November 16. JWCC is required to have the Board of Trustees adopt the Resolution and Certification Truth in Taxation Act prior to passing of a tax level (a hearing not required).

JWCC’s 2022 proposed tax rate, excluding debt service, is estimated at $0.36239 per $100 of Equalized Assessed Valuation (EAV) of property in the College’s district. The rate will result in an estimated $7,376,533 aggregate levy, which is $216,373 more than in 2021 when the proposed rate was $0.36975 per $100 EAV. Funds from the 2021 levy will be distributed to the College in the 2023-24 fiscal year.  Final approval of the levy is scheduled for the December JWCC Board of Trustees’ meeting where the total tax rate is expected to remain flat at $0.42400 per $100 EAV.

“The Board continues to be sensitive to the tax paying citizens of our district.  Our goal always is to be good stewards using a conservative fiscal approach with investments in strategic initiatives,” stated JWCC President Michael Elbe. “We continue to make investments for workforce training in the areas of manufacturing, agriculture, transportation/logistics, health sciences and many other career technical programs to support the workforce needs of the Tri-State area.  John Wood provides accessible education at an exceptional value is part of our mission and it contributes to students’ success now and later in life.”

 In other business, the Board:

Approved the regular meeting dates of the John Wood Community College Board of Trustees 2023.

Rejected the two proposals from qualified vendors to provide electric automation for the auditorium stage.

Accepted a $41,317.71 proposal from Live Space, LLC to provide lighting for the auditorium stage.

Approved the change of the December 14, 2022 Board of Trustees meeting date to Monday, December 19, 2022.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Trustees is set for Monday, December 19 at 6:00 p.m. at JWCC’s Quincy campus.
