Winter SIP and MAP Update

Ms. Kristin Reingruber, Director of Assessment, Instruction, and Evaluation, shared information on the Winter 2025 MAP Results.

Ms. Reingruber shared that the grade-appropriate MAP assessment was administered to students in grades 1- 7 between December 8 and 19, 2025 (the sixteenth week of instruction, according to 2025 NWEA norms). The winter administration of MAP provides the District with a data point to evaluate instruction, adjust individual student support, enrich the curriculum, and inform future course placement. Results for all grade levels were presented for both reading and math. She noted that the achievement by district, decile, school, and grade was shared. Growth by grade, cohort, building, and averages is included. A summary of the NWEA 2025 norms process outlines the how and why behind the update as it applies to the Winter assessment. Similar school comparisons were presented to illustrate how D181 students are performing in relation to students with similar demographic characteristics.

Winter 2026 NEWA Map Results

Under the new 2025 NWEA MAP norms, the same RIT score from previous years will now correspond to a slightly higher percentile rank. Overall achievement increased over fall performance in both reading (73% to 81% of students at/above the 69th percentile) and math (80% to 86% of students at/above the 69th percentile).

Growth has also accelerated, with all grade level trends indicating that students, on average, are exceeding their growth targets in both reading and math. Median growth in reading came in at the 72nd percentile; math at the 68th percentile – both well above the national norm.

Mrs. Erica Ekstrom also reported on similar trends within the special education cohort in both reading and math. A high rate of achievement and growth was also observed in the similar schools report, which controls the reporting group by various demographics (urbanity, socioeconomic status, etc.). Student achievement was broken down by decile band, and every band in reading and math met or exceeded its growth target.

Fall 2025 MAP – Achievement Summary and Next Steps

● New Norms: RIT scores have not changed. The new norms provided context for a student’s RIT score by assigning a percentile. As a general rule, the same RIT score will now correspond to a slightly higher percentile rank than it did under the 2020 norms.

● Overall Achievement: Achievement increased over Fall performance in both reading and math.

● Growth: Increased percentages of students meeting or exceeding growth projections.

● Similar Schools: High rate of achievement and growth compared to “similar schools.”

School Improvement Plan Updates

As a district, the systemic strategy focus has been on Instructional Practices that are highlighted in the D181 Framework for Teaching and Learning. An instructional framework focuses on instructional strategies that teachers can implement to promote optimal student learning. It provides teachers with a road map for lesson and unit planning.

Across D181 schools, teachers and administrators are engaged in ongoing professional learning that is grounded in high-impact instructional strategies. This framework provides our staff with a shared vision of what quality instruction looks like in every classroom and a premier educational experience for all students.

Each building celebrated the specific efforts and growth of its teams in relation to their academic, social/emotional, and cultural goals. This collaborative effort is also recognized in the consistent achievement and growth of students across the district.
